Uwezo Fund:

The current Government launched the Uwezo fund which is accessed by women, youth  and PLWD in form of interest free loans. County MPs will be the Patrons in the County and the funds will be distributed in each Constituency under the Constituency MPs CDF accounts for ease of access to members. A combined committee by the County MP and the Constituency MP is formed. The County MP is to be represented in each Constituency by three members one youth (male), one woman and one physically challenged person. The above structure is established to ensure that the qualified women, youth and PLWD groups are quickly accessed as per the set criteria in order to take advantage of the fund to develop and economically empower themselves.

Women Enterprise Fund

My office is also working closely with Women Enterprise Fund to encourage Women access various products from WEF especially the interest free loan so that our women and youth can kick start small scale businesses or improve their current businesses.  On 24th of August, 2013 for example, the WEF CEO Mr. Wainaina and I issued cheques worth Ksh:800,000.00 to ten Teso women groups to undertake their various projects. Table Banking

Table Banking is a new concept of savings amongst women and youth groups where members pool together their resources and borrow from the same with a minimal interest. This aspect has become popular amongst groups since it avoids the bureaucracies of high interest rates charged by banks. All funds are placed on the table during group meetings for borrowing. My office is slowly introducing the table banking mode of loans issuance albeit in small scale. This undertaking is already showing very positive economic impact on the involved women, youth and PLWD groups. However, in spite of the above efforts my office has noted gaps in the management capabilities of the groups. In this respect, there is need for continuous capacity building of the groups before they engage on high level table banking.  I appeal to donors and believers in table banking to support me in this venture.
